Papershop: Helsinki’s Hidden Gem For Paper Goods

Papershop Helsinki Desk and Chairs

First-time visitors to Helsinki, Finland, often find themselves awe-struck by the city’s effortlessly cool vibe: historic stone architecture, stylish locals, and quirky boutiques.

As you wander through the historical buildings and colourful facades, you finally reach Punavuori, the city’s creative hub. Walk a few more steps down and you will find Papershop, a hidden gem for stationery treasures.

Where Nordic Minimalism Meets Stationery

Set inside a classic granite-fronted building on Fredrikinkatu, this brick-and-mortar shop is where you could easily lose an hour or two. Step through the door and it feels a little like entering an old-fashioned candy shop. Think Harlequin checkered tile floor, warm globe lighting and origami birds hanging from the ceiling. It’s light, airy, whimsy, and charming.

Papershop Helsinki Outside

Lined along the white shelves is a carefully curated collection of stationery sourced from local Finnish artists and designers from around the world. You will find beautiful paper goods, custom-printed pieces, seasonal favourites, and thoughtfully designed objects.

The design is unmistakably Scandinavian: minimalist yet colourful, functional yet undeniably hygge.

Papershop Helsinki Interior

The brand was founded by sisters Anna and Tea in 2009. During their travels, they found themselves repeatedly drawn to paper shops, discovering fun, witty, and beautiful products that simply weren’t available in Finland. From that idea, Papershop was born.

Papershop’s collections include:

  • A lovely selection of high-quality envelopes in a rainbow of colours, along with address printing services
  • Beautiful and distinctive notebooks, journals, bookmarks, memo pads, and planners
  • Unique postcards that you can send to your loved ones
  • Letter-writing supplies: high-quality writing paper goods, envelopes, and greeting cards.
  • Gift inspiration: photo albums, keepsakes, calendars, ribbons, small gift items and gift wrapping

Creative Workshops, Tactile Experiences

But beyond the beautiful products, what really sets Papershop apart is the range of experience it offers.

There is a vintage mailbox inside the shop, where visitors can send letters straight from the store. Choose your favourite cards from the selection, pick up stamps at the counter, write down the recipient’s name, and drop them into the box. Papershop takes care of the rest.

Then, if you walk out of the store and get around the corner, you will see Papershop Ateljee. This is where the owners organise workshops, events, and creative sessions — perfect for those wanting a more hands-on experience. These range from drawing and embroidery to modern calligraphy.

Papershop also has its own printing studio, which specialises in small printing projects such as wedding invitations and thank-you cards.

So if you find yourself in Helsinki with a little time to wander, make room for this stop. And if you can, don’t miss their upcoming flower sketching workshops — a great opportunity to bring a little of Helsinki’s artistic spirit home with you.
