Kamakura Kotori: A Nostalgic and Playful Stationery Haven

Kamakura Kotori Interior

Tucked away in the old city of Kamakura, Kamakura Kotori is a charming stationery and sundries shop filled with nostalgic and playful finds. The atmosphere feels warm and welcoming, with a quiet sense of familiarity that makes you want to linger a little longer. Many of the items feature birds, a thoughtful detail that beautifully reflects the spirit of the shop itself.

The store also creates its own original postage stamps — the kind you can simply stick onto your mail and send straight away. Though small in size, the shelves are filled with paper goods, stationery, and little treasures waiting to be discovered.

Kamakura Kotori has been around for more than a decade, which says something about the kind of place it is. Small shops rarely last that long without offering something truly special.

One of the most memorable corners of the store is the “Exchange Diary Club,” an ongoing journaling project that invites visitors to write about anything they love — a favourite fountain pen, a collection of washi tapes, a beloved pet, or even a memorable meal. Once completed, you can display them in-store for others to browse through, creating a quiet archive of everyday thoughts and shared interests.

Participants also receive a special numbered membership card as a keepsake, a small but meaningful reminder of having left a page of themselves behind in Kamakura.
